World Standards


Phase Technology is actively involved in the world’s major national and international standardization organizations. As members of relevant subcommittees, we contribute to test method specifications that are used as quality standards for petroleum products.

ASTM International

ASTM is an international organization that develops and publishes voluntary technical standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems, and services.

ASTM Standards for petroleum include description of the test instrument, manufacturer model number and operation procedure. To meet global petroleum quality benchmarks, the world’s major refineries must certify product to ASTM standards.

Energy Institute (EI)

The Energy Institute (EI) is a professional membership organization for those working in the energy industry. In 2003, the U.K.-based Institute of Petroleum (IP) became part of EI through a merger with the Energy Institute.

IP designations are still used in the specification of test methods in the petroleum industry. Phase Technology test instruments meet and comply with these EI/IP standards: EI/IP Standard Description IP 435 IP freeze point specification, joint method with ASTM D5972; IP 446 IP cloud point specification, joint method with ASTM D5773
